What’s the difference between shrink wrap and pallet wrap?
Shrink wrap is a plastic film that shrinks tightly around an item when heat is applied, creating a secure and protective layer that conforms to the shape of the item. Pallet wrap, also known as stretch wrap, is a stretchable plastic film that is wrapped around items on a pallet to hold them together and provide stability during transport, without the need for heat.
Shrink wrap is ideal for tightly sealing individual items, while pallet wrap is used to secure and stabilise multiple items on a pallet.
How long do shrink wrap and pallet wrap last?
The longevity of shrink wrap and pallet wrap depends on the storage conditions and the specific materials used. Generally, shrink wrap can last for between one and two years when stored in a cool, dry environment, maintaining its protective qualities.
Pallet wrap, especially when made from high-quality materials, will also last the same time under optimal storage conditions. Both wraps are designed for single-use applications, but their shelf life can be extended if kept away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and humidity.
