Environmental Commitment

Our commitment to the environment

We live in a time where our impact as a species on the Planet we live in is more important than ever. With climate change a real threat we all have a responsibility to reduce waste and increase sustainability wherever we can.
At Tidmas Townsend, we understand the environmental impact our products and services may have on the environment. That is why we aim to take whatever steps necessary to reduce waste product and encourage our customers to use viable eco-friendly packaging alternatives

How do we do it?

For many years we have followed the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle policy within our business. This not only applies to our processes within the business but by also offering customers viable eco friendly alternatives to commonly used packaging materials. You will find examples of this all over our website, with our entire range of eco-friendly packaging materials available here.

Reduce — With advances in technology and manufacturing it is possible to produce many conventional packaging products thinner, lighter or using less material whilst still maintaining the performance of the product. We also look to reduce the amount of packaging our customers use by offering alternatives and improving pack efficiency. We do love a challenge so please feel free to contact us for information on how we can help you reduce your packaging costs

Reuse — We aim to provide customers with products that can be reused multiple times when kept well and looked after in the right way. Not everything in life need be single use, so if there is an alternative that can be used multiple times then we certainly look to offer it. A great example of this would be our Custom-Made Heavy-Duty Double Wall Boxes which can be reused multiple times due to their overall thickness and superb impact protection

Recycle — As a manufacturer of Corrugated Boxes not only do we send out a lot of cardboard, but we also produce a lot of waste. With over 250Tonnes of cardboard output last year we know how important it is to ensure that we are buying recycled material and also ensuring our waste is recycled and put back into the corrugated system. Through our FSC Chain of Custody Certification (FSC-C007915) we can provide evidence that all our bespoke manufactured products contain at least 70% recycled material

What is the FSC?

An international non-profit organisation, the Forest Stewardship Council was established in 1993 with the aim of promoting responsible care and management of the world's forests. This is done by the FSC certifying and labelling products as eco-friendly as well as setting standard on forest products such as wood and paper

The FSC’s mission statement is to "promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests". In order to achieve this the FSC has laid five specific goals

1.Advancing globally responsible forest management.
2.Ensure equitable access to the benefits of FSC systems.
3.Ensure integrity, credibility and transparency of the FSC system.
4.Create business value for products from FSC certified forests.
5.Strengthen the global network to deliver on goals 1 through 4.

These goals are in turn being handled by activities which are managed and developed through six program areas: forests, chain of custody, social policy, monitoring and evaluation, quality assurance and ecosystem services.

It claims that forests managed to its standards offer benefits to both local and wider communities and these are said to include cleaner air and water, and a contribution to mitigating the effects of climate change.

Directly or indirectly, The FSC addresses issues such as illegal logging, deforestation and global warming and some reports indicate positive effects on economic development, environmental conservation, poverty alleviation and social and political empowerment.

Using the FSC logo signifies that the product comes from responsible sources — environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable. The FSC label is used on a wide range of timber and non-timber products from paper and furniture to medicine and jewellery, and aims to give consumers the option of supporting responsible forestry
